The Uncharted series may be known primarily for its lengthy action-packed single-player stories, but ever since the second installment, a loyal following of fans have played the games for another reason: the multiplayer.

When Uncharted 2's multiplayer first launched, it hosted a surprisingly robust set of features. The same held true for its sequel and even Naughty Dog's other project, The Last of Us. Again, these games aren't necessarily known for their multiplayer, but that hasn't stopped Naughty Dog from building some truly creative mutiplayer games.

Fans have known for a while now that Uncharted 4: A Thief's End would feature multiplayer gameplay — it's just that no multiplayer footage had ever been released. That changed today: as a part of its press conference at Paris Games Week, Sony finally pulled back the curtain on Uncharted 4's multiplayer gameplay. Details on what exactly will be included are still scarce: the trailer's not particularly long, and it only shows off what appears to be a standard deathmatch. Even so, it's nice to know that Uncharted 4 will have something to play after the story comes to a close.

If the trailer is indicative of what Uncharted 4's multiplayer will be like, then it looks like it'll be the fastest take on player vs. player action in the franchise. Players dart around the environment with seemingly supernatural speed — then again, there's also a good chance that the actual game will play quite a bit more slowly than what's been show.

What's surprising is the focus on power-ups: several are shown throughout the trailer, all with unique abilities. It's been a long time since any multiplayer game put a big emphasis on power-ups, and they've all but disappeared (save for Star Wars Battlefront). Simply put, it's just nice to see a game that's willing to play around with them again.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End — and its multiplayer modes — are due out on March 18, 2016.
