Luc Besson's big-budget sci-fi adventure has been making headlines ever since the “Spielberg of France” director took on the project. It even has a new law named after it in France so that Besson could take advantage of the 30% tax rebate on filming the French production in his home mega-studio even if it would be in English.

And now the biggest news straight from the director himself, Pop star Rihanna will be joining the case of Rihanna. Although her role is as yet not specified, Besson promised on his Instagram account that it will be a big one.

Rihanna joins her bestie, Cara Delevingne, who was already attached to the project, as well as Dane DeHaan and Clive Owen. Filming is scheduled to begin in January and the movie will be released on July 21, 2017.

"Valerian" is one of the most popular and influential graphic novels of all time but it is largely unheard of Stateside. However, it has reportedly been the inspiration for other memorable space adventure films such as “Star Wars” and even Besson's “Fifth Element.”

The story takes place in a future where time travel is possible and the Terran Empire must be protected from time paradoxes created by those who would abuse the time stream.

It is not known yet if Rihanna will be able to share some screen time with her real life bestie, Delevingne, but the duo would certainly make the screen sizzle just like they do in the photos they've shared on their social media accounts of gal pal-ing around the red carpet, rubbing elbows with other celebs, and on exotic vacations around the world.

 congratulations on lastnight @caradelevingne #bfa

Delevingne, of course, is already well-established in Hollywood from her work on “Paper Towns” and her upcoming role as the supernatural supervillain Enchantress in “Suicide Squad.”

Although Rihanna is a newbie to movies, she has done some acting work as Petty Officer Cora Raikes in "Battleship" and has lent her voice in not just a singing capacity to the animated movie, "Home."
