U.S. smartphone supplier ZTE announced on Monday, Nov. 9, the release of a Wi-Fi only option of its Spro 2 Smart Projector for those who want to take advantage of the device's main feature, but do not need its mobile hotspot functionality.

The Spro 2 Smart Projector launched earlier this year, allowing consumers to turn their living rooms into movie theaters. The compact gadget has a plastic frame with stand that slides out from the bottom, which allows you to project your favorite Netflix series or mobile game to any wall or ceiling by displaying images up to 120 inches with 720 HD resolution at 200 lumens.

The smart projector is powered by its Snapdragon 800 processor, has 2 GB of RAM, and runs on Android's 4.4 KitKat. The device has a 5-inch touch screen with its own home screen, so users can quickly access Google's apps to project.

It has built-on speakers, an audio jack, HDMI ports and a USB port, as well as a 64 GB microSD card that is sold separately, so you can display your work presentation or connect to your PS4 for big-screen gaming.

And while the original model featured Hotspot functionality, the new Wi-Fi only option allows users to take advantage of the device without having to add the device to your mobile carrier plan.

Users can still input videos, photos and other content wirelessly, and take advantage of the built-in apps that include Sling TV, Zoom and JBL.

"We are excited to deliver a Wi-Fi only Spro 2 device for consumers who still want the flexibility it provides at home and at work, but may not want it added to a new or existing data plan," Lixin Cheng, chairman and CEO of ZTE USA, said in a press release. "Collaborating with leading technology providers will enhance how consumers interact and use the Spro 2 in almost any situation."

With the Sling TV app, users can stream content from popular channels like ESPN, AMC and HGTV for $20 a month, or opt for a seven-day free trial. Sling TV consumers can also add on the "Best of Live TV" package for HBO for an additional $15 per month, or the other a la carte add-ons for $5 per month.

The built-in app Zoom also lets Spro 2 Wi-Fi users conduct online meetings, group messaging and video conferencing.

Users can enjoy 2-and-a-half hours of projection time with its internal 6,300 mAh battery. The device measures 143 x 132 x 3.18 mm and weighs 20 oz.

The ZTE Spro 2 Wi-Fi Smart Projector is available on the company's website for $549.98.
