It's just a little over a month before "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" hits the big screen and everyone is excited! Even J.J. Abrams can't contain his excitement as he sat down for a chat with Wired's Scott Dadich and talked about welcoming back fans to one of the biggest franchises in history.

Abrams shared that they set out making "The Force Awakens" with the aim of telling a story had its own beginning, middle and end, but implied at the same time a history preceding it and a future that it is to follow - similar to "The New Hope." When the first "Star Wars" movie came out, it let the audience understand a completely new story but also inferred at the possibility of so many other things.

"'The Force Awakens' has this incredible advantage ... of a backstory that is familiar to a lot of people," added the director, noting that not having to reboot anything is what allowed their team to pursue the movie in an organic manner.

As such, anyone who doesn't know anything about "Star Wars" can watch the movie and feel that they are right there with the characters. Loyal fans of the franchise, on the other hand, will experience "The Force Awakens" akin to going through familiar territory refreshed because they'll have added meaning to digest.

Aside from taking advantage of a compelling backstory, the movie was also developed in a fun way. When Abrams was working with Lawrence Kasdan, who also co-wrote "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi," the two imposed a mutual requirement that their output only needed to be delightful. They didn't worry about explaining everything right away nor about introducing a certain number of characters to maximize the potential for merchandise. Abrams and Kasdan also didn't think about trying to please anyone and this is what got them excited to churning out "The Force Awakens."

"Star Wars: The Force Awakens" is due for a release on Dec. 18. It will star Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Harrison Ford, Peter Mayhew, Adam Driver, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, and Lupita Nyong'o.
