Funcom recently announced that its PC psychological horror game The Park will launch on both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 sometime early next year.

The Park is Funcom's first single player game released since Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, which launched way back in 2006. Since then, the company's focus remains with its horror-based MMORPG The Secret World.

The Park released on PC last month, and encouraged by sales, Funcom decided to make the game available for consoles, too.

"Encouraged by the positive reactions we have received on the Windows PC version, we are very excited about bringing it to consoles," said Funcom CEO Rui Casais in a statement. "Exploring a dark, sinister and frankly terrifying location from the comfort of your sofa, with the lights turned off and controller in hand is sure to be a very rewarding experience."

The game takes place in a creepy old theme park, where a mother must hunt for her missing son. As players wander through the eerie setting, they soon learn her story as they search for clues as to the son's whereabouts.

"As the sun sets over Atlantic Island Park, you must explore its dilapidated rides in search of your son, Callum," writes Funcom on The Park's website. "As darkness falls, you will experience panic and paranoia through a narrative written by a team of award winning storytellers."

The Park might seem familiar to players of The Secret World, probably because Funcom confirmed that The Park exists in the same universe as the MMORPG. Even the ferris wheel in The Park looks a lot like one seen in an abandoned and haunted amusement park in The Secret World.

However, reception for The Park, at least among critics, remain mixed. The title only gets a 68 on Metacritic with Game Informer calling it "more unnerving than scary," while Destructoid admitted that "it really does try something different."

However, the PC price for the game is just $13 and with that likely being the cost of the game on consoles, it's still probably worth a play.

The Park is available now for PC.
