The Mysterious Stranger perk is one of the most beloved of all perks in the Fallout video game franchise, including the most recent, Fallout 4.

This perk gives players a chance to get a trenchcoat-clad stranger showing up during battle to take down enemies: the Mysterious Stranger shows up randomly, although the more a player invests in the perk, the more likely the stranger shows up. In Fallout 4, the Mysterious Stranger shows up randomly when using the game's V.A.T.S. system.

Far too often, the stranger also appears when needed most, taking down an enemy right before a player dies, making this one of the most valuable perks in the game.

The stranger arrives with a bit of noir-inspired music (to go with his trenchcoat and fedora). Now, gamers can celebrate the Mysterious Stranger by using that music as a ringtone or notification sound on their smartphones.

The ringtone is available for download on iPhone, Android and Windows devices, all thanks to Xbox's Major Nelson.

In the Fallout games, perks act as a skill system, allowing players to add additional perks as their characters level up. In Fallout 4, players have 70 perks to invest in with 220 ranks within those perks, combined. Players can also gain perks by reading certain magazines and books and winning favor with companions.

The Mysterious Stranger isn't a new perk: he's managed to pop up in every single Fallout game. In the first Fallout, players could even speak to the stranger, although in Fallout 4, he disappears right after firing his deadly shot, even before exiting V.A.T.S. (Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System). In that game, his description reads as follows:

"Who is he? Why does he help? Who cares! The Mysterious Stranger will appear occasionally in V.A.T.S. to lend a hand, with deadly efficiency..."

Those players who continue to invest in the Mysterious Stranger perk will get more random appearances by the character, as well as a chance to automatically fill up their critical meter.

Although there is no interaction with the Stranger in Fallout 4, occasionally companions will comment on his random appearances.

Fallout 4 is available now on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
