Geekbench 3 is a popular benchmark test app that has been used to compare the CPU and GPU of devices with those of others, among its many features. For iPhone users, Geekbench will let you see information that Apple usually does not reveal to its customers, such as the number of cores the smartphone utilizes and the chipset's clock speed.

iPhone users interested in benchmarking their smartphones with other devices, or are simply curious on what information the benchmark test app can reveal, can now download Geekbench 3 for iOS for free.

It should be noted that the currently free Geekbench 3 is not a lesser version of the app that removes certain components to reduce its price or make it free. This is the complete version of the app, but it being free will only be for a limited time.

There is no indication on how long the app will stay free, so iPhone users that would like to have Geekbench 3 in their apps stable should not wait any longer and download it through the App Store. Users that wait too long may be disappointed to see that the offer has run out, though the app is only 99 cents to purchase.

Geekbench 3 was instrumental in the controversy that sparked earlier in the year regarding the difference between the A9 chipsets used in the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. Geekbench 3 determined that there were two different chipsets used for the smartphones, with one set being manufactured by Samsung and the other being made by TSMC. This was discovered in the System Information menu of Geekbench, where the code number of N66AP or N71AP will mean a Samsung A9 and a code number of N66mAP or N71mAP will mean a TSMC chip.

The app, which will also work with iPads, could also run a battery test to confirm if a device's battery is already faulty.
