Often, even the most high-powered smartphone comes down to its battery life.

To extend that battery life and offer your mobile device extra protection, Apple has introduced its Smart Battery Case, specifically designed for the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6. The case popped up on Apple's website, retailing for $99.00, available in white and charcoal gray, and shipping in one to three business days upon purchase.

For Apple, jumping into smart cases means the tech company is going to compete with Mophie — which has been growing in popularity with its own smart "Powerstation" cases — in an attempt to possibly grab share in the market.

Apple says the Smart Battery Case allows user's phone and the case itself to be charged simultaneously for increased talk time of up to 25 hours, Internet use up to 18 hours on LTE and video playback of up to 20 hours. The Smart Battery Case displays an intelligent battery status on the iPhone's Lock screen and within its Notification Center, constantly keeping users abreast of how much juice they have left at all times.

Upon first glance, what especially stands out about the Smart Battery Case is its junk in the trunk via a glaringly obvious bulge in the back. Yet, Apple says the Case is silky smooth to the touch, courtesy of its silicone exterior finish, promising to fit comfortably in users' hands.

The case also supports Lightning accessories like the Lightning to USB cable accompanying the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6. It also works in conjunction with the iPhone Lightning Dock.

Right in time for the holidays.
