It's no secret that, when compared to other games on the market today, Star Wars: Battlefront is a bit light on content. Sure, it's one of the best-looking games ever made, but at the end of the day, it won't take long for the average player to see everything that Battlefront has to offer.

While it's far from completely fixing the game's shortcomings, EA has offered up Battlefront's first piece of DLC for free. The 'Battle of Jakku' pack isn't just a new map or a movie tie-in, either: the Jakku DLC introduces its own, unique mode alongside one of the most visually impressive maps in an already gorgeous game.

The main attraction here is the new 'Turning Point' mode. While Battlefront's iconic Walker Assault mode has the Rebels on the defensive, Turning Point flips the script and places the Imperial team on defense. Think of Turning Point as a linear variation of Supremacy: instead of fighting back and forth over control points, Rebels now storm a series of capture zones in a linear order while the Imperials do their best to stop them. As soon as one control point is taken, another set opens up - once the final zone is captured, the Rebels win. The Empire can win by defending the control points until time expires...but, aside from the final checkpoint, keeping control of the capture zones is anything but easy.

Turning Point doesn't necessarily turn the gameplay on its head, but it does offer up a nice bit of variety for a game that desperately needs it, and the mode does just enough to feel distinct from Battlefront's other, similar gametypes. When it comes to the map itself, there are a few questionable design choices (that last control point can be nigh impenetrable), but as with all other Battlefront maps, Jakku really does feel like a battlefield straight out of the films.

If the DLC had cost anything to download, it'd be much harder to recommend - but, considering that the Battle of Jakku pack is free, anyone still playing Battlefront should definitely give it a try.
