While there are plenty of rumors about Apple getting rid of the 3.5 mm headphone jack in the iPhone to make the phone thinner, a number of companies have started manufacturing headphones for the Lightning connector just in case that does end up happening.

The latest company to do that certainly isn't skimping out on high-tech features, and it has announced a pair of headphones that are more expensive than the iPhone itself. The company is called Audeze, and the new headphones are the EL-8 Titanium. They come with a price tag of a cool $799.95.

The cable itself is pretty impressive, offering a digital signal processor, digital-to-analog converter and an amplifier, all built into the cable, which the company calls the Cypher cable.

Interestingly enough, the EL-8 Titanium headphones are actually one of Audeze's more affordable products. While the Cypher cable adds an extra $100 to the cost of the headphones, it does come in handy, ensuring that the headphones are powered. Smartphones tend to be a little weak in power for headphones, but now that there is an amplifier built right into the cable, the headphones should be able to show off what they can do.

Apart from the amplifying technology in the cable, the headphones also have an in-line microphone and remote control. Users can rely on those features when making phone calls or talking to Siri.

One of the best things about these headphones is that they are small enough to be portable, but they still offer the high-end sound quality that would be expected from headphones that come with such a high price tag.

The Audeze EL-8 headphones are available from select Apple Stores in the U.S. and Canada, and can also be purchased online for $799.
