Although Assassin's Creed fans have already seen Michael Fassbender in his assassin's costume for the film based on the popular video game franchise, they haven't yet seen him on set in that same outfit.

Now, though, photos taken during the filming of Assassin's Creed show Fassbender on location in costume as production gets under way for the project.

In these new photos, Fassbender is in an undisclosed location somewhere in Spain, strolling through the dusty streets of a city that might remind fans of the first few games of the series, which featured similar settings.

These photos, posted by Skript.fr on Facebook, aren't amazing, and are, in fact, a little blurry, but they give fans of the franchise an idea of what the tone of the film is, as well as offer a little more insight into its look and feel.

So far, most of the plot of the Assassin's Creed movie is unknown, although it is an original story and not based on any of the existing games in the franchise. In the movie, Fassbender is Callum Lynch, who gets into an Animus, which lets him take on the role of one of his assassin ancestors, Aguilar, who lived in 15th century Spain: this sets the movie during the time of the Spanish Inquisition.

Although the film features an original story, the official Assassin's Creed Twitter account confirmed that familiar faces from the games could still pop up in the film.

Considering the time frame of the movie, one of those familiar characters could be Ezio Auditore, a Florentine assassin alive during that period and a main character of several of the Assassin's Creed video games. If he appears in the film, though, it's likely only a cameo. It's also likely that video game characters associated with the Abstergo company will show up in the movie.

The Assassin's Creed film premieres Dec. 21, 2016. The most recent Assassin's Creed video game, Syndicate, is available now on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
