The good news just keeps coming in for Assassin's Creed fans.

Yesterday, Ubisoft released its first preview of Michael Fassbender in full costume — and, to be honest, it looks pretty great. Sure, it didn't answer many questions, but it was great to see that the film is seemingly on the right track.

Surprisingly, it didn't stop there: while Assassin's Creed fans may be used to waiting months for new movie info to hit the Web, Ubisoft decided to change things up a bit. Assassin's Creed Head of Content Azaïzia Aymar took to the franchise's official Twitter account earlier today and asked fans to send in their questions about the upcoming movie. The result: fans now know a lot more about the movie than they did before.

For starters, the setting of Assassin's Creed has finally been confirmed: the historical portions of the film (which usually take up the vast majority of the games) will take place during the 15th century Spanish Inquisition. So far, there's never been an entry in the core Assassin's Creed franchise that took place in Spain — for the first time ever, Assassin's Creed is getting a Spanish assassin.

The assassin's name is Aguilar: not much is known about him, save that he is Spanish and played by Michael Fassbender. The name does provide an interesting connection with the games themselves, however: Renardo Aguilar was one of the villainous Templars in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.

It's entirely possible that the two characters are connected, which could provide an interesting look at the connection between the Assassins and the Templars. After all, if the Aguilars are related, then that means Fassbender's assassin is part of a Templar bloodline — if that's the case, the film could end up exploring something that the games have never touched on before.

There's also the idea of the video games and film inhabiting the same universe: Aymar confirmed that both sides of the series take place in the same overarching world. Not only that, but the film will feature characters from the games themselves: Aymar wouldn't go into details, but it seems almost guaranteed that someone from the video games will have a cameo in the film.

There's still quite a ways to go before Assassin's Creed hits theaters, but fans finally have an idea of what to expect when the movie finally premieres. Considering it looked like the film would be stuck in development limbo not too long ago, the current state of affairs is definitely an improvement — let's just hope that Ubisoft doesn't start spoiling the movie with too much info.

To see everything that Ubisoft announced today, just head on over to the official Assassin's Creed Twitter account.

Assassin's Creed is set to debut on Dec. 21, 2016 — until then, fans can look forward to Assassin's Creed Syndicate, which launches on Oct. 23.
