Man Playing ‘Fallout 4’ Hit By Car, Says His Special Gaming Chair Saved His Life

Ben Rose wasn't in the parking lot or crossing the road when he was hit by a car. He was playing Fallout 4 in his living room when a Hyundai Sonata came crashing through his home in Irving, Texas, according to a report from a CBS affiliate in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

While trudging through the wasteland, Rose said his apartment suddenly became one when the car plowed through the living room walls. The impact of the crash severed one of his Achilles tendons and fractured his vertebra.

"Cars versus people don't really end up well. So I really thought it was over," said Rose. "Everybody asks were you walking in your parking lot? Or were you in your car? What do you mean she drove through your apartment?"

Police think that instead of the brakes, the driver of the car accidentally hit the accelerator when she tried to pull out of a parking space outside Rose's apartment. Rose thinks it was his gaming chair that saved his life, or at least prevented him from suffering more injury.

"The chair is what saved me, without a doubt," Rose said. "That took the impact. It pushed me out of the way. It kept me from going under the car."

The driver of the car has been cited, but police said no charges will be filed. Unfortunately, the driver of the Sonata did not have any insurance, leaving Rose to cover damages and bills. Rose says that his friends have raised money amounting to nearly two months' worth of salary for him. And that's a lot for someone who's living paycheck to paycheck, he said.

Some of Rose's friends have set up a GoFundMe fundraiser to help him with his medical bills and other expenses.

That campaign has already hit its goal of $10,000. In just seven days, funding climbed up to $11,625.

"We are all completely floored and amazed by the amount of attention this is receiving, and by the incredible generosity being shown to our friend," states an update from the campaign. "Words cannot express our gratitude to each and every one of you who have shared this story, or sent well-wishes, or given your own caps to help."
