With a gingerbread rendition of the Galactic Empire's ultimate Sith Lord Darth Vader going viral days before Christmas, it was only a matter of time until gingerbread geekery would get its day to shine. A bevvy of sci-fi- and fantasy-inspired baked goods statues are making their way around the Internet, paying homage to shows like Doctor Who and Game of Thrones, as well as movies like Transformers and the original Star Wars trilogy.

The first among these to gain widespread recognition was the aforementioned Gingerbread Vader himself, created by Olso-based 3D artist Caroline Eriksson. Eriksson herself constructed other (literal) cookie-cutter genre tributes before her Darth Vader went viral, including Smaug from J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings series and Optimus Prime from director Michael Bay's Transformers franchise. Her Darth Vader creation took three weeks to complete.

3 weeks and 3 fire-alarms later I am excited to show you my gingerbread Star Wars creation, Darth Vader, cant wait to hear what you guys think! :) #StarWars #ForceAwakens #Gingerbread #GingerbreadDarthVader

The latest gingerbread concoction to get its day in the sun is also from a galaxy far, far away: Han Solo's Millennium Falcon (the one below was created by blogger Tony Kim).

As CNet noted, Star Wars isn't the only cultural touchstone getting the Christmas cookie treatment. For Trekkies everywhere, a gingerbread U.S.S. Enterprise exists, as does the Doctor's Tardis and his canine robot companion K-9 if you're a fan of the British sci-fi show Doctor Who. Also, who could forget King's Landing or the Iron Throne from HBO's Game of Thrones?

If you feel so inspired, check out how to make your own gingerbread Millennium Falcon in the video clip below.
