It's been a tough few quarters for Samsung and it's now turning to the Galaxy Note 4 to pull it out of the rut.

With the iPhone 6 to be launched in September as well, Samsung is looking to get into the race early by revealing its newest phablet, the Galaxy Note 4, on September 3. Since Samsung will be participating in the IFA in Berlin, the reveal is expected to also happen in Germany's capital city. Last year, Samsung also revealed the Note 3 in the trade show.

According to a report from The Korea Times, supply chain sources have confirmed the reveal's schedule, saying the event will happen a few days before the IFA trade show starts. Official invites are being finalized and will be sent to guests "soon."

The Galaxy Note line has enjoyed a great following from phablet enthusiasts but now that Apple is coming out with a 5.5-inch version of the iPhone 6, Samsung may be feeling the pressure. It also doesn't help that the company has a lot riding on the Note 4 given its paltry performance the last few quarters.

Like the Note 3, the Note 4 will feature a 5.7-inch display. In terms of specs though, "Samsung Note 4 will have far better specifications than the Galaxy S5 smartphone," said Kown Young-noh, Chief Financial Officer for Samsung Electro-Mechanics. Samsung Electro is a Samsung affiliate and is in charge of supplying camera modules for Samsung Electronics.

Housed in a metal frame, a flat OLED screen is expected of the Note 4. Reports are saying that Samung will also be bringing a curved OLED version to the IFA but this will not be featured in the latest Galaxy Note model to be released. Another expected feature is a fingerprint scanner which Samsung has already used in its Galaxy Tab S tablets.

Other rumored features include an ultraviolet sensor which will measure levels of UV radiation, directly tying into the ‘S Health' application, and fourth-generation LTE support. There will also be two versions of the Note 4: one will use a Snapdragon 805 chipset for the North American, Korean, Chinese and Japanese markets and the other will be fitted with an Exynos SoC for all other markets, including Europe.

After the reveal, the Note 4 may be made available immediately. Samsung has already worked out agreements with major U.S. carriers.
