Although Wonder Woman's origin story has changed several times since her debut in 1942, one thing that always remained certain about the character was her golden lasso of truth.

However, in Justice League #47, the lasso is now no longer a tool used by the Amazonian princess to force criminals to tell the truth. In the latest issue of this comic, Wonder Woman reveals that the lasso's original intent was to "help people see for themselves who they really are."

"It's to help," Wonder Woman says within the pages of Justice League #47, which means that every other iteration of the lasso, as a weapon of war, had the lasso doing a job it wasn't originally designed for.

This revelation comes after Wonder Woman deals with Superman, who is out of control, thanks to new powers he has acquired in previous issues after the death of Darkseid. But what's most interesting is that when Wonder Woman lassos him and demands to know who he is, his eventual answer is that he is, in fact, at his heart, Clark Kent.

Wonder Woman was originally created by psychologist William Moulton Marston, the man behind the lie detector test. The golden lasso eventually became its own lie detector test for Wonder Woman, and was known as the "Lasso of Truth," as it was meant to capture criminals and force them to tell the truth.

However, this isn't the first time that the lasso has shown additional powers: the lasso has been used by Diana for everything from channeling the energies of Gaia to destroy enemies to creating protective rings of fire around people to protect them. It was also used to control people bound by it, as well as render enemies unconscious.

This is the first time that the lasso's origin itself has changed from a weapon of war to a weapon of therapy. And in Justice League #47, it seems that it's working to help Superman find himself again.

The latest issues of Justice League has all of its members struggling with new god-like abilities left in the wake of Darkseid's demise, and it seems that Wonder Woman's lasso might come in handy for helping some of the others, as well.

Justice League #47 is available now.
