A lot of gamers flock to PC for the customization. Whereas consoles take care of most of the guesswork, those who really dive into PC gaming can tweak just about any aspect of the experience, including the hardware itself. On top of that, installing new tech is just the tip of the iceberg — after all, what's the point of spending all that dough on beefed-up hardware if the casing itself doesn't look the part?

Granted, most custom-built PC towers usually aren't all that impressive — most people are happy with a few extra lights or some fancy glass paneling. That being said, there are some modders who really take things to the next level. Take Sander van der Velden: he wasn't happy with some extra tubing or LED fans, so he built his entire case from the ground up as part of MSI's "Pro Mod Season 3" contest.

Also, it's about as far removed from a "regular" PC tower as you can get: van der Velden turned his custom case into a Venator-class Star Destroyer.

What you're seeing is real: that's a fully functional, high-powered gaming PC ... shaped like a Star Destroyer. What's even more impressive is that van der Velden built the entire thing from scratch, even going so far as to buy a 3D printer for the sole purpose of putting the Star Destroyer tower together.

The fancy case isn't just for show, either — van der Velden's got some pretty powerful tech sitting inside that cruiser:

• Main board: MSI B150m Mortar matx board
• Graphics Card: MSI 780TI Lightning
• RAM: Avexir Blitz 1.1 32 GB DDR4 3000 MHz - White
• Processor: Intel Core i5 6600K 4x 3.50 GHz
• Power Supply: Thermaltake Toughpower DPS G 850W Platinum

Oh, and don't worry about van der Velden's outstanding build getting overshadowed: MSI actually reached out to the modder before the contest's end, asking if he'd be alright with displaying his Star Destroyer PC at CES 2016. If you're at the show next week, make sure to check it out!
