If the box office numbers reveal anything, it's that pretty much everyone is continuing to head to theaters to watch The Force Awakens. But after all the buzz surrounding the film, it's time to lay this one to bed and turn our attention to another film — Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

What we know already about the next Star Wars film — a stand-alone movie that can best be described as a prequel anthology between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope — is that it will follow the story of the rebel squad of resistance fighters on a mission to steal the plans of the Death Star.

Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla) and produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Rogue One stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, and Riz Ahmed.

While little else of known about the film, the rumor mill is already starting to swirl. And if this rumor is true, fans will finally know the role Hannibal's Mad Mikkelsen will play in the film. To make it even juicer, his alleged role also reveals the role of Felicity Jones, and how their stories are tied.

The rumor was reported by the website Makingstarwars.net, which, if it makes fans feel it can be trusted, had previously reported on some exclusive rumors for The Force Awakens.

Here's what the site reports:

Mads Mikkelsen (Galen appears to be his name in the film) is kind of the key to the film in a way. He is a scientist that took over the Geonosian Death Star project. He solved several of the flaws the Empire could not and is sort of a revered person in the Empire for his contributions. However, Mikkelsen's character is a Robert Oppenheimer-type character. Oppenheimer helped design the atomic bomb only to say, "Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds." The guilt "Galen" feels for his contributions to the Empire become too much and he defects, attempting to make things right. In order to do this, he enlists the help of his only daughter....

The rumor continues to claim Jones will play Mikkelsen's daughter, who is tasked with undoing the harm done by her father. The early version of her character described her as a "bounty hunter type of mercenary."

None of these details have been confirmed at this point.

Rogue One hits theaters Dec. 16.
