Apple launched the OS X 10.11.3 update to all OS X El Capitan users. Designed to enhance performance and bring bug fixes, users can now download the version from the Mac App Store through its Software Update option.

Apple launched El Capitan on Sept. 30 last year, while the first software update of the developer beta version of the OS' was released mid-December. The 10.11.2 version has since been shipped in the same month.

In the beginning of January, the company released a second OS X 10.11.3 beta and has reportedly started testing OS X 10.11.4.

"The OS X El Capitan v10.11.3 Update improves the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac, and is recommended for all users," said Apple on its support page. It added that the update "fixes an issue that may prevent some Mac computers from waking from sleep when connected to certain 4K displays."

So far, the latest version does not include any significant feature upgrades or improvements. While most of the issues addressed by the update were made available for the 10.11 up to the 10.11.2 versions of the OS X El Capitan, there are those which have been particularly designed to improve other versions. This includes the OS X Mavericks 10.9.5, OS X Yosemite 10.10.5 and OS X El Capitan 10.11.

Some of the issues that were fixed and enhanced by the update include: a memory corruption, which was also found to have existed in the parsing of disk images; an existing type confusion issue in libxslt; scripting libraries search issue; and memory corruption found in an IOHIDFamily API.

Apple advises users to back up their Mac prior to updating their OS.

"Some updates become available only after installing other updates," said Apple.

The update can be accessed through the Apple Support Downloads page. The company added that users should install these updates once they become available and that there shouldn't be any interruption for the installation to be completed.

However, results other than the one expected can occur if the OS X has been modified through other methods or if the user has installed third-party OS X modifications.

Apple touts OS X El Capitan as a way for users to do what they usually do with their Mac in a simpler and smarter fashion. Highlights of the OS include multiple apps access through Split View; quick access to one's favorite sites through Pinned Sites; enhanced email managing mechanism; checklist creation based on one's notes; and faster and more fluid graphics performance through Metal for Mac, among others.

Apple plans to launch the polished version of the next OS X 10.11.4 El Capitan version alongside the release of iOS 9.3 and watchOS 2.2.

This latest OS X version is said to deliver new features that include iMessage sharing, Live Photo viewing through the Messages app and enhanced security to Notes through password protection feature.
