Samsung has officially announced its ultra-thin and metal-framed Galaxy Alpha. The smartphone features a 4.7-inch HD Super AMOLED display, octa-core processor, 12-megapixel rear camera, and is 6.7mm thin.

As Apple's rumored Sept. 9 iPhone 6 event gets closer, its biggest rival is planning to release two new smartphones that clearly have both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 as its target. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is widely expected to be unveiled during the company's Unpacked event scheduled for Sept. 3. The phablet will reportedly feature a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440.

We recently reported that the first images of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 leaked. The images show the phablet will feature a redesigned case that will be thinner than the Galaxy Note 3, while its outer metal frame and iPhone 5/5s chamfered edges will bring a premium feel to Samsung's next-generation Galaxy Note.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4's metal frame and chamfered edges have already made their way to the Galaxy Alpha. Samsung ended months of rumors and has officially announced the Galaxy Alpha.

"The Galaxy Alpha was built and designed based on the specific desires of the consumer market," said JK Shin, CEO and head of IT & Mobile Communication at Samsung Electronics. "With an entirely new appearance, the Galaxy Alpha focuses on both beauty and functionality, combining a stunning metal frame and slim, light-weight design with the same powerful hardware and features users expect from a flagship Galaxy mobile device."

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha features a 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 Super AMOLED display and runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat. The smartphone is powered by a Samsung Exynos octa-core processor and 2 GB of RAM. It will ship with 32 GB of internal storage and not include a microSD expansion slot. The handset will boast a 12-megapixel rear camera and 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Galaxy Alpha also includes many of the popular features found on the Galaxy S5, including a built-in fingerprint scanner, heart rate sensor, S Health, and Ultra-Power Saving Mode.

The Samsung Galaxy Alpha will go on sale in early September and will initially be available in Charcoal Black, Dazzling White, Frosted Gold, Sleek Silver, and Scuba Blue, with available colors to be determined by market.
