Narrative has announced the launch of its new Open Platform, which is designed to be a hub providing access to an API for developers who want to create software for the Narrative wearable cameras, among other Narrative products.

The goal here is to create an ecosystem around Narrative's products, including the Narrative Clip 2.

"The applications we have built for the Narrative Clip are all tailor-made to fit an everyday use case, and that will continue to be our focus," said Martin Kallstrom, CEO of the company, in a statement. "But with the Open Platform, anyone who wants to use the Narrative Clip specifically as a pet cam, or a lifelogger cam or a mounted dash cam, can build their custom-made applications for that."

The Open Platform gives users access to the company's data, which they can use in their applications, as well as a Narrative Clip 2, and an uploader API to enable users to upload photos and videos. The company says that it will be offering more features as time goes on, including a Bluetooth SDK and a Narrative app that enables photos to be sent to third-party services.

Narrative was started in 2012, and its aim is to offer wearable cameras as well as image analysis that can be used with those cameras. The Narrative Clip 1 and 2 can be worn by a person or an object from which someone might want to film. Every minute, the device captures two images through the 5 megapixel sensor.

Of course, wearable cameras have been around for some time now, however, many companies on the market are targeting different audiences. GoPro is aimed mostly at sportspeople who want to capture what they're doing as they're doing it. Narrative's cameras, however, are a little sleeker and keep a low profile, meaning that the images captured are more telling of everyday life.
