Popular hardware megastore Home Depot has been left red-faced by a racist tweet. The tweet in question was a picture of a drummer wearing gorilla mask and surrounded by two African American drummers.

The tweet said "Which drummer is not like the others? See more @CollegeGameDay pics at hdgameday.com #HDgameday #football". The tweet was a part of the company's "College Gameday" coverage.

The company was quick to delete the photo and also issued an apology. However, an angry Twitter user retweeted it and sent the pic to the NAACP's Twitter account.

In the apology, Home Depot termed the tweet as "dumb". Reports are that the company has also ended its contract with the unnamed firm who managed its social media networks.

"We're also closely reviewing our social media procedures to determine how this could have happened, and how to ensure it never happens again," Home Depot said.

Interestingly, Home Depot was a trending topic on Twitter same day.

There were a few of those who thought the anger against Home Depot was not justified.

"I personally don't see anything wrong with the Home Depot tweet. Y'all are really reaching on it," Lorredroc Sirrah tweeted.
