Rumors pertaining to the next-gen iPhone are gaining traction as the purported launch of the smartphone draws nearer. Images of the alleged iPhone have surfaced online and hint that the upcoming Apple smartphone will tout a powerful 2915mAh battery.

Previous leaks and rumors have suggested that the next iPhone will tout a bigger screen and now a Chinese blog Appledaily claims that Apple will add "L" to the smartphone's name to denote the bigger size.

The Chinese site has managed to lay its hands on pictures of the upcoming iPhone and reveals that the bigger 5.5-inch iPhone will be called the iPhone 6L. However, the site does not divulge from where it got this information and, therefore, the alleged bigger iPhone being named the iPhone 6L should be taken with a pinch of salt.

The images posted by Appledaily show off the front panel, battery and the logic board for the 5.5-inch iPhone. The pictures also show off the battery for the iPhone 6L and the 4.7-inch iPhone (expected to be called iPhone 6) as 2915mAh and 1810mAh, respectively. The bigger battery capacity size is in keeping with previous rumors and makes sense if Apple is indeed intending to take the bigger screen route.

The images also show the iPhone 6L and iPhone 6 side-by-side, with the device with the purple interior being the 5.5-inch variant of the smartphone. The image, however, does not reflect a marked difference in size between the two smartphones especially considering that one has a 4.7-inch screen and the other a 5.5-inch one. However, this disparity could possibly be due to the image's perspective, which does not reflect the difference in size.

Previous rumors have suggested that the next iteration of the iPhone will come in two sizes. The device will likely have a sapphire crystal screen which is unbreakable and scratch resistant. The smartphone is also anticipated to have a faster processor and run on iOS 8.

It has also been hinted that Apple is looking for alternate charging methods for its iDevices and may introduce solar charging capability for future devices.

With Apple anticipated to debut the next iPhone on Sept. 9, we will have to wait and see if the bigger iPhone is indeed called the iPhone 6L.
