LG's upcoming new smartphone, the LG G5, will be unveiled on Feb. 21 before the 2016 Mobile World Congress. The chosen date is a bold statement by LG, as Samsung is also introducing its next flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S7, on that day.

LG's confidence in the G5 is understandable though, as information that has been revealed about the smartphone shows that it is a worthy successor to the LG G4 and a threatening competitor for all other flagship smartphones in the market.

Compared to the LG G4, what has improved in the LG G5? So far, this is what we know.

Processor, RAM And OS

A Geekbench profile on what is said to be the LG G5 has revealed a smartphone that is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 with 4 GB of RAM, with the device running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

The Snapdragon 820 inside the smartphone is said to prove that LGE LG-F700S, as named in Geekbench, is indeed the LG G5, as the processor that will be used by flagship-level devices that are being released this year.

In comparison, the LG G4 packs the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor with 3 GB of RAM. The smartphone ran Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box, though it has received updates to take the device to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Display And Cameras

A report late last month included a 3D rendering of the LG G5, which showed the smartphone as having a 5.6-inch display compared to the LG G4's 5.5-inch screen.

The report also revealed a dual-camera setup for the LG G5, with one camera being an 8-megapixel and the other being a 16-megapixel. This will definitely be an improvement over the LG G4, which received great reviews on its one rear-facing 16-megapixel camera.

The dual-camera setup was further confirmed by cases of the LG G5 that were already posted for sale online. The case design shows the smartphone to have a dual-LED flash, with a laser autofocus underneath.

Storage

Unlike the trend of flagship smartphones dropping the expandable memory option, the LG G4 featured microSD card support for additional memory up to 2TB on top of internal storage of 32 GB.

LG will likely continue the feature for the LG G5, though some models could see the internal storage capacity of the smartphone bumped up to as much as 128 GB.

Battery

The battery of the LG G5 is speculated to be as large as 4,000 mAh, which will offer even longer usage times compared to the LG G4 with its 3,000 mAh battery.

LG even teased Samsung through its Twitter account, hinting that the LG G5 will feature a removable battery. Samsung decided to have a non-removable battery for the Galaxy S6, while the LG G4 also had a removable battery.

Other Features

Some other information has revealed about the LG G5 include the rumor that it will include an eye scanner as an additional security measure for the device on top of the fingerprint scanner, which was first introduced in the LG G4.

Another latest released teaser by LG hinted that the LG G5 will feature an always-on display, with the screen of the smartphone said to be a full-screen version of the second screen of the LG V10.

If all these specifications and features are confirmed once the LG G5 is unveiled, then the new flagship smartphone will definitely be a front runner in the smartphone market of 2016.
