The LG G5 won't be alone, as a toned-down variant called the LG G5 Lite could be rolling out too, according to a new rumor.

For a little background, the model number of the LG G5 is LG H830 or LG F700, but another handset that bears the moniker LG-H840 has emerged. As logic dictates, it should be a more powerful and feature-packed smartphone that'll mop the floor with the LG G5. That's not the case, though.

The German website WinFuture (translated) first brought this intriguing bit of news to light when it discovered the purported hardware specifications on GFXBench. The listing says that the presumed LG G5 Lite is going to be a midrange smartphone.

For starters, it'll be fitted with a 5.3-inch display with a 2,560 x 1,440 resolution, translating to 554ppi. That's a tad smaller than the purported 5.6-inch screen on the LG G5.

It'll be loaded up with 3 GB worth of RAM, and capacity-wise, it'll have 32 GB of native storage. As for the cameras, it looks like it'll be equipped with 8-megapixel shooters on both sides.

With these hardware specifications, surely it doesn't seem to be a smartphone at a lower range than the LG G5, right? Well, everything went tumbling down on the processor.

The LG G5 Lite will apparently be packed with a not-so-impressive octa-core Snapdragon 625. To put things into perspective, that processor doesn't hold a candle to the king of the current Qualcomm chipset food chain that is the Snapdragon 820.

There's one thing that comes across as odd, though. The specs sheet says that the LG G5 Lite will be running on Android 4.4 KitKat, and that just can't be right. With that said, it's safe to bet that the smartphone will have the Android 6.0 Marshmallow that it deserves out of the box.

Other features such as an expandable storage or a Quick Cover of its own were not mentioned.

Now, for availability, there are no details whether or not the LG G5 Lite will show up along with the LG G5 at the 2016 Mobile World Congress on Feb. 21. It might not even sport these specs when it's unveiled.

In the event that it does, the LG G5 Lite could be a pretty good smartphone to get ahold of when it's matched with the right price. It'll be like what the LG G4 Beat was to the LG G4, an affordable version with respectable performance.

It should be noted that the LG G4 came with a Snapdragon 808, whereas the Beat model was crammed with a Snapdragon 615, making the case for the two upcoming smartphones all the more possible. Also, if LG is going to take cues from its release history with the LG G4 and Beat, then there's a small chance that the LG G5 Lite will hit the shelves sometime in May.

Needless to say, this is just a rumor, so it's advised to take it with a good ol' grain of salt.
