"SUCCESSOR: Final Fantasy VIII Remixed" was released last Thursday, giving Final Fantasy fans something to tide them over until Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy VII Remake are released. Not that the remix album was not a treat on its own!

A six-disc collection, "SUCCESSOR" features remixes of tracks from the Final Fantasy VIII soundtrack, with contributions from more than 150 arrangers, composers and online personalities. Offering their own take on Nobuo Uematsu's compositions, the album presents "unique and imaginative" arrangements, according to Materia Collective, the production company behind "SUCCESSOR."

Available for digital download on Google Play, iTunes and Loudr, "SUCCESSOR" is, well, the successor to last year's "MATERIA: Final Fantasy VII Remixed." This previous album came out in October 2015.

"After our debut album, MATERIA, choosing Final Fantasy VIII as a follow-up tribute album was the next logical choice, and aligning the release with the game's release anniversary seemed poignant," said Sebastian Wolff, Materia Collective founder.

Final Fantasy VIII came out 17 years ago in North America on Feb. 11, 1999.

It took just three months to produce the follow-up to the "MATERIA" album, but the strict time frame was no problem for the production company because of the dedication and talent of the artists part of making "SUCCESSOR" a reality.

"SUCCESSOR" boasts of a wide range of professionally recorded and mastered musical styles, including a rock opera, a flute choir, the new national anthem for Galbadia, mesmerizing a cappella, vocal incantations, string quartets, a power ballad, a ska cover and soulful jazz.

Some of the featured artists on the remix album include: Dale North, Fredrik Häthén, Laura Intravia, Cris Gale, Rozen, Elizabeth Zharoff, David Saulesco, Triforce Quartet, John Robert Matz, Rich Douglas and the Videri String Quartet to name a few.
