Back in the day, if an artist was delivering an impactful or controversial performance on the Grammy Awards, people would pick up their phones and call their friends or family to make sure they're tuning in.

While some people may still do that, there has been a huge shift over the years to people commenting in real-time conversations with friends, family members and total strangers on social media ... especially Facebook and Twitter.

With the 58th Annual Grammy Awards taking place Monday night at Los Angeles's Staples Center, Twitter revealed the most-tweeted moments and artists from the three-and-a-half-hour broadcast via a blog early Tuesday morning.

And would you believe that the most-tweeted moments from the Grammys wasn't a performance?

It was actually to see who would win Song of the Year. Twitter revealed Tuesday that Ed Sheeran winning the Grammy for Song of the Year for "Thinking Out Loud" was the most-tweeted moment of the entire awards on Monday night, although the social media network didn't identify numbers behind it.

Rounding out the top three most-tweeted moments were Kendrick Lamar's rousing and powerful performance of "The Blacker the Berry" and "Alright" and Meghan Trainor winning the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.

Pretty interesting that artists winning particular Grammy Awards were more tweeted about than performances, including Lamar's and that of Lady Gaga's, Adele's, Justin Bieber's and The Weeknd's, just to name a few.

As part of Twitter's Tuesday morning blog post, the social media network also revealed the top five most-tweeted about artists during the 58th Annual Grammy Awards. Who were they?

Well, apparently a chunk of the Twittersphere had a case of Bieber Fever because the 21-year-old pop act was the No. 1 most-tweeted-about artist during the Grammys.

Following him and rounding out the top five was Lamar, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez and Adele.

Twitter's blog post even includes a section of celebratory tweets from Grammy winners.

Overall, though, are you surprised that Sheeran winning the prestigious Grammy Award for Song of the Year out-tweeted performances from the likes of Lamar, Lady Gaga and others? Or does it sound just about right?

After all, waiting in anticipation to learn the winners and then arguing about whether they deserved the honor is a big part of people watching award shows, period.
