A massive tablet for the masses is how one could describe the new Big Tab HD line of tablets launched by Fuhu Inc. as part of its Nabi line of Android tablets for children and families.

The Nabi Big Tab HD tablets are available in 20-inch and 24-inch screen sizes. The company bills them as "the world's biggest Android tablets made for sharing." It also claims these products create an entirely new category of touch screen tablets.

The mega-tablets are designed to promote increased social interaction, communication, collaboration and socialized learning.

The Big Tab HD tablet features a 20-inch or 24-inch brilliant HD (1600x900) and Full HD (1920x1080) resolution, 15-point capacitive touch screen. Graphics are supplied by a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 4 processor. Storage capacity is 16 GB. The tablets feature a lightweight, removable carrying frame that is adjustable to any angle or tha t can be removed for a surface/table-top experience, ideal for board games and multiplayer interactions.

Fuhu's proprietary Blue Morpho OS overlay over Android will process the action on the Big Tab HD tablets.

"We are so pleased to introduce the Nabi Big Tab line of products and are excited about the implications as a new category of family tablets. We were simply amazed at how Big Tab's larger format transformed our interactions with our children, family gatherings and made the tablet experience easier for seniors," said Jim Mitchell, Fuhu CEO.

Glass-screen tablets that are this big are saddled with some weight -- in this case, 10.5 pounds to start, making it definitely Dad's job to lug it around the house. The Big Tab includes a special enclosure to make that a less onerous task.

Once the Big Tab is planted and ready to go, users will find a multitude of board games pre-installed on it, including Candyland, along with two-player action games such as chess and air hockey. Video and book content is provided by companies that include Disney and the Cartoon Network. DreamWorks also is one of the content providers for Big Tab HD.

"We really want to connect families, not separate them. Our goal is to see kids learning to cooperate to achieve a higher goal. The more casual, fun, educational games are rarely collaborative, but now you have screen real estate for 20 fingers or 10 hands. That's a big win," said Jim Mainard, head of digital strategy and new business development for the company.

The Nabi Big Tab HD 20-inch and 24-inch models will retail for $449 and $549, respectively, and will be available in the fall.
