It's almost March, and that means it's time for Microsoft to unveil its next batch of free games coming to those with an Xbox Live Gold subscription.

After being leaked by Xbox Espana, it looks like Microsoft has decided to officially unveil next month's free games, and it's certainly a nice variety of games being offered. Leading the charge on Xbox One is Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and PunishmentThe mystery title will be available for free all month long and will put players in the shoes of the legendary detective as he solves puzzles and makes difficult moral choices. You'll be able to play according to the rules or bend them to get the results you need, but the story might not exactly turn out like you expect.

Starting on March 16, players will be able to download Lord of the Fallen. Inspired heavily by punishing action RPGs like Dark Souls, Lords of the Fallen is dark fantasy of the highest order and should tide over fans who are waiting for the release of Dark Souls III later in the month.

Xbox 360 fans will have plenty to enjoy as well, starting with strategy title Supreme Commander 2. Real-time strategy is a difficult genre to pull off on console, but those who want to try their hand at commanding units by air, land and sea with a controller will be able to do so from March 1 to March 15.

Starting on March 16, players will be able to download the original Borderlands free of charge. Borderlands, of course, needs no introduction. Gearbox's shooter/RPG hybrid is an action-packed and gag-filled adventure filled with more loot than you can possibly dream of, which should make it a popular pick for players when combined with the game's support for up to four-player cooperative play.

Keep in mind that both of these Xbox 360 titles are backwards compatible on Xbox One (as are all Xbox 360 Games with Gold from now on), so Xbox One players will actually be snagging four free games. You can download the 360 titles either from the Xbox 360 game store or through Xbox.com. For Xbox One owners who want to play the 360 games, simply add them to your account via one of the two methods above and the game should then appear in your "Ready to Install" game list.
