Silicon Valley is getting AT&T's fastest Internet service available, with the company announcing plans to deliver its uber-fast GigaPower network to Cupertino, in the heart of Silicon Valley.

The new network will "bring symmetrical upload and download broadband speeds up to one gigabit per second."

The move is a logical one, with Cupertino and Silicon Valley being ripe for additional Internet infrastructure. The city will be home to the fastest Internet in the United States, claims AT&T.

The company says the GigaPower network will give users the ability to have "cutting-edge" television services and the ability to stream and record as many as five HD streams at once with the largest capacity DVR - one terabyte of storage - on the market.

"Cupertino is proud to be the first city announced in California set to receive the ultra-high-speed AT&T GigaPower network," said Cupertino Mayor Gilbert Wong.  "Cupertino is leading the way in creating an environment that fosters innovation, and the deployment of ultra-high-speed broadband service will further support innovation in our community, spur our local businesses, and result in even greater economic development in our city.  We are very pleased to work with AT&T to offer this unprecedented service to our residents and small businesses."

AT&T says the roll out reflects it continuing "tradition" of offering the best quality Internet service for Silicon Valley, where the majority of the world's tech giants are located.

"The ultra-fast speeds of the AT&T network open up a whole new world of possibilities for our customers in Cupertino," said Ken McNeely, president of AT&T California.

Tech Times reports that although the company made the announcement, no time line for the roll out has been made, with company officials saying they would make an  announcement at a later date.

To make the upgrade possible, AT&T is to deploy more fiber and electronics for the city's network infrastructure. However, with Google Fiber already offering one gigabit per second speed, AT&T will face competition as it endeavors to roll out its GigaPower network across high volume areas.
