Spring months are a strange time for gaming. It's basically a drought of new releases, as all major titles either came out before the holidays or won't launch until summer starts.

At the same time, publishers usually reserve the slower spring months for sales — basically, gamers are simultaneously stuck with nothing new to play and a bunch of older games to spend their money on.

It's a strange problem to have, but it ultimately works out for the gamers: publishers still make a bit of money in between bigger releases, and players actually have something to do. Most people would probably think of Steam when it comes to gaming sales, but Sony's PlayStation Store has got its fair share of good deals — and this week's offerings are a perfect example.

Capcom's classic survival horror series, Resident Evil, is having a huge sale across Sony's platforms. True, most of the sale is relegated to the PlayStation 3, but if you've been itching for something scary, Sony's latest sale is a great jumping-off point.

The biggest draw here will likely be the Resident Evil franchise pack: for just $24, players can download Resident Evil 4, 5 and 6 on their PlayStation 3 consoles. True, Resident Evil 6 wasn't exactly great, but the fourth game in the series is so good that it's worth the price of admission on its own. If you want to go back even further, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis are also available on Sony's last-gen machine for just $6.

There aren't quite as many choices available on PlayStation 4, but there are still a few titles worth checking out. Both the Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 0 HD remasters are on sale for $13 and $16 respectively, and Resident Evil Revelations 2's individual episodes are just $3 a piece. For what it's worth, we enjoyed Revelations 2 ... right up until the ending, that is.

Microtransactions and DLC packs make up the rest of the offerings — but given the series' rocky history with post-launch content, you may want to wait until you play through the core game first before picking up any extras.

If you ever needed a reason to dust off the old PlayStation 3, Sony's Resident Evil sale should do the trick — even if it's just an excuse to play through Resident Evil 4 again.

You can find all of the deals over at the PlayStation Store.
