Update: Blizzard has now confirmed Overwatch's release date date is indeed May 24. The game's early access open beta begins May 3 for those who preorder or pre-purchase the game, with the open beta opening up to all players starting May 5. Original story is below.

Blizzard has yet to announce a release date for its upcoming multiplayer shooter Overwatch, but now, it looks like the cat is out of the bag thanks to two leaked advertisements.

Via an advertisement that briefly appeared on IGN, and it looks like Overwatch is set to release on May 24. An ad appearing on the mobile version of the site also stated that those who preorder the game prior to April 29 will get into the game's early access open beta, which is set to start on May 3. Though both ads have been removed, you can view them over on the Overwatch subreddit.

Overwatch is currently in closed beta, with the game receiving numerous changes over the past few months. Most recently, Blizzard introduced a new progression system to the game that allows for players to unlock new costumes, taunts and more by playing. By earning credits, players can unlock loot boxes with a variety of goodies, and can even break down unwanted items in order to create the items they desire.

These cosmetics can also be purchased with real-world cash. Adjustments to the strengths and weaknesses of all the game's various characters is also ongoing, as Blizzard looks to balance the game's large roster of unique playable characters before launch. Blizzard has confirmed that progress made in the game's open beta will not carry over to the full game.

Overall, it looks to be a busy year for Blizzard. In addition to frequent updates to its free-to-play games like Hearthstone and Heroes of the Storm, the developer will also release Overwatch and the latest expansion for World of Warcraft.

If this information is correct (it has yet to be confirmed by Blizzard), Overwatch will be releasing on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC May 24. Those who preorder will gain the Noir Widowmaker skin for use upon the game's release.
