A painting on a wall has provided a hint that the next major expansion of Hearthstone could be billed Whispers of the Old Gods.

Blizzard Entertainment says on a blogpost that it is planning to reveal a special announcement at a forthcoming tournament.

"Our very own Lead Designer Ben Brode and Senior Producer Yong Woo will kick off the weekend of the Americas Winter Championship with an announcement about what's coming next for Hearthstone," reads a part of the post.

It says that the announcement is pegged on "March 11 at 10:00 a.m. PST."

Ahead of this special event, a Reddit user That_Azzin has initially spotted a humongous painting on a side of a building in New York, showing off the words "Whispers of the Old Gods."

Judging from the captured painting, it appears that it fits the style of Hearthstone. Moreover, a goblin and a tentacle at the bottom of the mural are visible.

"So this is a hand painted advertisement I found on the way to work today," says That_Azzin. "I don't know if it has been announced yet but it looks like the next expansion will be Whispers of Old Gods."

The Reddit user then revisited the mural at a later time to check out what the painting looks like. It appeared like the #OLDGODS text has been covered with green tape, according to That_Azzin.

"I'll post again once it is finished in a day or two," he added.

Adding fuel to the fire of the rumor is a YouTuber Disguised Toast who has given other hints related to the new Hearthstone expansion.

Disguised Toast says on the video he posted that Blizzard has modified five cards on the official site of Hearthstone to a selection which is associated to "the Old Gods."

This observation seems logical because when Blizzard was preparing for the announcement of its Blackrock Mountain expansion, it chose to replace the homepage cards which provided hints on the said earlier expansion.

In a related Hearthstone news, Tech Times earlier reported on Blizzard's announcement about a few changes on the Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, including the introduction of the Standard and Wild formats for Friendly Challenges, Ranked plus Casual games.

In any case, there's a big chance we might be getting full details on the expansion on Friday, during the scheduled Blizzard event.

We'll be sure to keep you posted on any news about the expansion as it becomes available. Let us know what you think about this news in the comments section below.
