Time Warner Cable subscribers experienced a nationwide outage of Internet and cable services this Wednesday, which was first reported to have started around 3:00 a.m. ET. The company said most of services have already been restored.

Main areas affected were in bigger cities like Tampa, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago according to downdetector.com. Time Warner Cable did not deny the reports and announced through its Twitter account that it was fixing the problem.

"We're working to restore services to all areas as quickly as possible; no ETR. Tweets will be delayed while this is addressed," tweeted @TWC_Help.

No mention why there was an outage or how many percent of the 11.4 million subscribers all over the United States were affected.

It was a large outage but good thing most people were sleeping that time. Only a few early birds or night owls noticed the problem. It was more than a simple case of Internet being inaccessible as cable services, phone lines, and the website were also down. It seemed like a total black out.

Interestingly, this incident unfortunately happened after reports of Virgin Media users in the United Kingdom losing their Internet access the day before.

The hashtag #timewarnercable started trending on Twitter soon after. Most of the TWC services in the country are back up but some parts are still down, especially in the northeast area.

CNN's Brian Stelter tweeted a statement from TWC regarding the outage.

"At 430am ET this morning during our routine network maintenance, an issue with our Internet backbone created disruption w/ our Internet & On Demand services. As of 6am ET services were largely restored as updates continue to bring all customers back online," Stelter wrote on his Twitter account (@brianstelter).

Internet outages are common but this one is believed to be massive. More people are frustrated now as most of their lives, work and personal, are online.

Anywhere in the United States, a widespread outage of Internet, cable, and phone services affecting most of the people is not acceptable. Such problem must be resolved ASAP lest Time Warner Cable wants to frustrate the subscribers who are always quick to complain.

Hopefully, this outage doesn't affect Time Warner Cable's pending $45.2 billion deal with Comcast.
