A lot of hype surrounds the Samsung Galaxy S7 and there are multiple reasons for it: powerful specs, sleek design and impressive resistance.

Thanks to the experimentalist team behind Unlock River, we now know how well a Galaxy S7 flies from 1,000 feet to the ground, and there is a video footage to demonstrate it. The latest Android flagship showed remarkable durability in its free flight (read: fall).

Unlock River recently posted a YouTube video showing what happens when you drop a Samsung flagship from a high altitude, via a drone. In good humor, the team ceremoniously opened the case of the brand new Galaxy S7, unwrapped the protective plastic cover and powered it up for the very first time before sending it plummeting to its (almost) demise.

Though somewhat predictable, the device suffered massive damage during the landing, as you can see for yourself by watching the video below.

The team explained why they put the neat gadget to such an enduring test. Unlock River says that, should a device withstand such a massive drop, it can certainly take a few mishandling from the average user.

Experts tend to agree that the Galaxy S7 is the best smartphone on the market, so far, and durability is one of the criteria. The phone comes covered in damage-resilient Corning Gorilla Glass, and the edge is reinforced with a metallic rim to keep the handset compact and protected against impact.

However, regular benchmarking does not include huge plummets to a parking lot covered in concrete.

Surprisingly, the Galaxy S7 fared better than expected. Even though the team called the phone "completely destroyed," the reality was a bit more nuanced. The screen suffered the most damage (sort of expected that to happen), but it looks like the aluminum frame absorbed the impact quite majestically.

The gadget is so strong, in fact, that it still managed to power on after the drop. Not only did it boot up, but vibration and sound were good to go. Unlock River points out that the screen was utterly shattered, but that is pretty much it.

The phone-buster team gave the smartphone a 6.5 durability score, which virtually means that standard falls will leave your Galaxy S7 unscathed.

As a reminder, the latest flagship of the Galaxy S series is not only durable, but also dustproof and waterproof.
