You're going to have to wait a little longer to become a next-generation assassin because Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed Unity has been delayed by two weeks.

Ubisoft Montreal has decided to take a couple more weeks to add some extra polish to the game. North American players will now get their hands on Unity on November 11, while it releases elsewhere on November 13. The developer is no doubt still stinging from the lashing it took from fans and critics for the bug-filled Assassin's Creed III two years ago.

"This being a fully next-gen game, it requires a lot of work, a lot of production, and a lot of learning," said senior producer Vincent Pontbriand on Ubisoft's Blog. "It's always hard to be precise and to quantify exactly how much work is involved. So as we get close to the finish we often realize we're near the target but we're not quite there yet."

Pontbriand cites the game's enormous complexity as the main reason why extra polish is needed. In particular, all of the tiny details that lend the game the sensation of a living, breathing world. Most of the core Assassin's Creed systems had to be rebuilt from scratch, to allow for a significantly bigger open world, thousands of NPCs on screen at once, and smarter enemy A.I.

"We sincerely appreciate players' commitment to the game and their patience," he concluded. "It's just a couple more weeks. And it's going to be worth it."

This date change has no impact on the U.S. release of Assassin's Creed Rogue, the forthcoming title for last-gen consoles. Both games will now release on the same day.

Assassin's Creed Unity represents a huge gamble for Ubisoft, as the first next-generation-only title in the series. Set during the bloody, violent French Revolution, Unity reportedly required the most extensive development time of any entry since the original game.
