After IBM, it's the turn of Oracle to hop on to the mobile device management (MDM) market bandwagon with the acquisition of Bitzer Mobile.

Oracle said it has acquired Bitzer Mobile Inc., which is a mobile applications management solutions company. Bitzer enabled organizations to provide employees "access to corporate data and applications from their mobile devices, to address the growing security needs created by the bring your own device (BYOD) movement."

Bitzer Mobile was started in 2011 and co-founded by Ali Ahmed, Naeem Zafar and Indus Khaitan. Oracle has now purchased the company; however, the terms of the deal remain undisclosed.

"Bitzer Mobile augments Oracle's industry-leading portfolio of Fusion Middleware products, and is expected to be a core component to its mobile security strategy. Together, Oracle and Bitzer Mobile are expected to provide organizations with a comprehensive solution to further manage security of enterprise information held on personal and company-owned mobile devices. The transaction has closed," per a statement by the company.

Bitzer currently has offices in Sunnyvale, California and in Bangalore, India. The company provides a base where IT personnel can mobilize existing enterprise apps swiftly. The employees can do this securely by combining all enterprise data "inside a secure container that is completely under their control."

Once an app has been mobilized, users can interact with it from their Android, iOS or BlackBerry device. This basically means IT personnel need not be concerned about offering support for multiple platforms or the creation of customized mobile apps for each platform.

The amount for which the deal has been struck and other details are currently not known.

"Oracle is currently reviewing the existing Bitzer Mobile product roadmap and will be providing guidance to customers in accordance with Oracle's standard product communication policies," said Oracle.
