The hit late night FOX sketch comedy show which recently celebrated its 20th Anniversary with an hour long reunion special, is returning to Primetime! The CW announced on April 11 that it is reviving MADtv on primetime and Executive Producer David Salzman is on board for it.

There is no word yet on when the show will be back on our screens again or whether some of the MADtv alumni would make a comeback as regulars or it would have a completely new regular cast. What is sure for now is that some former castmembers will make special appearances and the revival will be composed of eight hour-long episodes.

"We will continue to present the hard-hitting, laugh-out-loud wall-to-wall pop culture parody our fans expect, but in a fresh, new way," Salzman promises.

John Montgomery and Mark Teitelbaum will executive produce the revival along with Salzman and Telepictures is the studio in charge.

Warner Brothers President for Unscripted and Alternative TV Mike Darnell used to oversee MADtv when he used to work at FOX and he is thrilled that he will get to do so again because he is the person in charge of Telepictures.

"In my opinion, it was always an underrated show that rivaled the best sketch comedy on television. I am thrilled to see it come back to network TV - and in primetime - thanks to The CW [...]" Darnell said.

Madtv is a late night comedy sketch program that ran from 1995 up to 2009 on FOX and is based on the humor of MAD magazine. It is popular for its animated cartoon shorts, hard hitting parodies and less than politically correct sketches that are still all fun to watch. The show competes with NBC's equally popular comedy sketch program, Saturday Night Live in its time slot during its airing.
