LG launched its budget-friendly smartphones, K7 and K10, in India on April 15, pricing the models at Rs 9,500 (about $143) and Rs 13,500 (about $203) respectively.

True to the "Make in India" initiative, the South Korean phone maker will produce the models locally at its manufacturing center in Noida. For now, LG aims to roll out about 1 million handsets in India.

"We want to tap the huge potential for smartphones in the country and the K-series will be the first ones to be manufactured in India," said Kim Ki-Wan, managing director at LG Electronics India.

However, the other leading makers of entry-level phones like Lava, Micromax, Gionee, and Xiaomi have already started manufacturing their devices within the country.

For phones that aim the sub-Rs15,000 category, LG has put in a lot in this series, which boasts of the latest "pebble" design language that is meant to bring together the unique hardware and software in perfect marriage with finesse. The devices also sport the 2.5D Arc glass that is rarely seen in handsets of this category.

Tech Times earlier reported specifically about the camera of the K7 and K10 models. Indeed, a 13-megapixel back camera is an enviable feature for an entry-level handset. With its design and build, not to mention the price, these LG devices look ready to take on Samsung's J series in the value-for-money Indian market.
