Images and videos purporting to show early looks at the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 raise some of the most convincing handsets yet, from form factor to Touch ID, though the "leaker" showed his face in his "proof" and has cast doubt on his claims that devices he demos are, in fact, products from Apple's latest smartphone line.

This late in the game, Apple CEO Tim Cook is probably reciting in his sleep his keynotes and gestures for his company's upcoming media event at the historic Flint Center in Cupertino. But while the project reveal of the iPhone 6 is nearly here, "leakers" continue to grasp for infamy by releasing photos of videos that may or may not be Apple's latest smartphone.

The handset in the latest images also aesthetically matches up with the iPhones 6's supposed sleeker build and rounded corners, but the Touch ID factor pushes the most recent claim ahead of others in terms of supporting rumored specs. But as French Language site Nowhereelse points out to 9to5Mac, Touch ID knockoffs have been implemented in iPhone clones in the past.

Also giving weight to leaked images, what seems to be an updated Passbook icon appears on the user interface in one of the photos. If the devices in the images are authentic, the reworked Passbook confirms indications Apple is preparing to launch a virtual wallet with it latest line of products.

Back in January, Cook said Apple has been intrigued by mobile payments and a virtual wallet was one of the biggest motivators behind the tech company's implementation of Touch ID. The iPhone 6 is expected to use near-field communications to beam virtual representations of real-world credit cards to point-of-sale systems, while the iWatch has been projected to leverage the tech for a mobile payments systems as well.

With Apple already in a bad mood due to hackers breaching the security of iCloud and spreading celebrity photos, it would be a bold move for a legitimate leaker to show his or her face while possessing one of the tightly guarded products.

Apple has schedule a media event for 1 p.m. EDT on Sept. 9 at the Flint Center in Cupertino, the same location Steve Jobs introduced the world to the Mac. Apple is expected to show off 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch versions of the iPhone 6 during the event.
