More than a few Legend of Zelda fans over the years have longed for a more realistic, gritty approach to Nintendo's beloved adventure franchise. This short might make those fans reconsider that idea.

"Game of Hyrule" is a Legend of Zelda and Game of Thrones mashup video from Megasteakman, and it's certain to make you look at Legend of Zelda in a whole new light. In true Game of Thrones fashion, "Game of Hyrule" is dark, violent and depressing, almost to the point of being funny.

"Game of Hyrule" is funny in that sort of "oh, my God, they actually went there" kind of way. There is a sex scene between Link and Zelda, for example. The King of Hyrule is assassinated by Dark Link (just like Renly Baratheon is assassinated by Shadow Stannis in Game of Thrones). Princess Zelda punishes a man for breaking pots by imprisoning him within the Water Dungeon. Link lookalikes are executed via swarm of angry chickens. The Fairy Fountain is actually a brothel (and is terrifying to boot).

Oh, and Ganondorf is also featured in the short, though he is somehow the most tame character in the entire video. That fits in with Game of Thrones tradition, in which the good guys all die miserably, while the bad guys reap the rewards. Even with that in mind, the end of the five-minute short will still likely shock more than a few viewers. Did we mention Zelda also eats the heart of Epona, Dothraki style?

Yep. That's a thing that happens. It's all well done visually, with most of the game references hitting home for longtime fans of the Legend of Zelda franchise. Still, it's all a little off-putting. There's just something about Link and Zelda hooking up that seems wrong, and let's not even get started on those nightmarish Great Fairies. Let's hope Nintendo doesn't get any ideas from this, though judging from what we've seen of the next Legend of Zelda game for Wii U, fans won't have to worry.
