2013 hasn't been the best year for Lamar Odom, who has been a free agent since last year and has dealt with long rumors of drug abuse.

It also didn't help much that Odom went to rehab following a DUI charge in August.

Looks as if there may be hopes for a second chance for Odom as the New York native has been working at his alma mater, the University of Rhode Island, with renowned trainer Rob McClanaghan, on a comeback. A source tells E! News that the gym was closed off to the public while he practiced but took time-out to post pics and mingle around the campus.

"There were swarms of students ditching class and running over to meet him and he just kept smiling and saying hello to all of his fans," the source said. "He was personable to everyone and just had an overall good attitude."

Following his recovery, a home at the Staples Center may come as in part to a potential contract with the Los Angeles Clippers.

According to another report, Clippers coach Doc Rivers acknowledged that there was a two-hour meeting with the two time NBA Champion which ended on a positive. A tweet from Bleacher Report writer Jared Zwerling also mentioned Lamar signing to the team which had him averaging 4.0 points and 5.9 rebounds for all 82 games played during the 2012-2013 season.

"Source close to Lamar Odom: He's doing well & wants to stay in LA. 90% chance he signs w/LAC; no timetable yet. No other teams in the mix," tweeted Zwerling.

E! News also found another anonymous source telling them that his relationship with reality TV star wife Khloé Kardashian have been attending counseling sessions to mind their marital problems.

"Khloé has been very, very hurt by everything. There is a lot about Lamar that she is just learning and if they have any chance of making this work, there is a lot they need to come to terms with," the source added.
