From the studio that forever changed the XCOM universe with the introduction of the Long War mods comes a new XCOM 2 mod that follows three other mods released when the turn-based strategy game launched last February.

Long War Studios released the mod on April 29. This latest mod will be followed by several others, all commissioned by XCOM 2 publisher 2K Games and created in partnership with developer Firaxis.

Firaxis built official mod support into XCOM 2, making it easier for fan-founded studio Long War to release three mods early on in the life of the game.

The first three XCOM 2 mods introduced the Muton Centurion, the SMG pack and the Leader progression path. This latest mod, "Toolbox," gives players wrenches and tape measures to further customize their XCOM 2 experience - and extra options are always welcome by PC gamers.

"Using 'Toolbox,' players can configure camera rotation in tactical missions, create random stats for new soldiers or those who have leveled up, edit damage values, tweak the game UI and turn on Red Fog - a modifier where injuries can affect a soldier's stats," says 2K Games.

The Toolbox mod is now available for free on the Steam Workshop. Here's a list of the equipment included in the Toolbox mod:

• Configurable camera rotation in tactical missions
• Red Fog (injuries affect stats)
• Random stats for new soldiers
• Damage variation
• Random stats on level-ups
• UI and other support for up to 12-soldier squads
• UI that shows soldier stats in various menus

The Toolbox mod is the halfway mark in Long War Studios' march of the mods. Over the next few months, the studio's current campaign will see it release four more free mods for XCOM 2:

• The LaserPack, which will deliver a new weapons tier
• The PerkPack with its 70 new perks, new classes and adjusted classes. Other modders can even use the PerkPack mod to mod new classes themselves.
• The AlienPack, which adds a horde of new enemies for the Muton Centurion mod
• To Be Announced, but you can believe this mod is coming
