Although no one really expected it to happen so soon, Dishonored 2 will get a release in 2016.

Today, Bethesda announced the game's official release date, which is Nov. 11, 2016. That's when Dishonored 2 will arrive on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Bethesda initially announced the second title in the franchise at last year's E3. It impressed fans with a CGI trailer that featured Corvo from the first game and a new female protagonist, Emily. Those who played the first Dishonored will remember Emily as the young girl in that game. Now, she's all grown up, and it seems that she is now Corvo's stealthy protégé.

Beyond that, though, Bethesda hasn't given too many details about the title, although the developer did release a trailer that pointed out some of the secrets hidden in its E3 presentation video.

Dishonored 2 picks up 15 years after the events in the first game, after the Dunwall Plague. Emily, who was once Empress, gets overthrown by an usurper, which makes her an outlaw to society. Wanting to win her throne, back, Emily takes to life as an assassin under the tutelage of her protector, Corvo. She will use her newfound skills to regain her throne as the Empire's rightful ruler.

Players can choose which character to play as — either Emily or Corvo, but both have assassin skills that allow them to move stealthily through the game. Like its predecessor, Dishonored 2 will allow players to choose to move quietly through the game without killing anyone, or to take a more violent path in achieving their goals. Which tactic a player chooses will probably affect the final outcome of the game. The developer also hints at a third path to take, although it hasn't released details on that yet.

Corvo and Emily have the same missions, but they will possess different powers, allowing them to accomplish those missions in different ways. Dishonored 2 will also treat upgrades differently: instead of offering upgrades to increase powers as in the first game, the new game will have skill trees. AI characters will also become smarter, meaning that if Emily or Corvo peer around a wall for too long, they will get spotted. This means that Dishonored 2 should provide more of a challenge for players than the previous title.

Expect to learn more about Dishonored 2 at this year's E3.
