California-based Oracle has acquired media storage firm Front Porch Digital.

On Sept. 14, Oracle disclosed that it had acquired Front Porch Digital and the transaction is expected to be closed in 2014. Until the time, Front Porch digital, which provides technology for creating, managing and migrating media content on a big scale, will operate as an independent entity.

The company is "thrilled" to join hands with Oracle and hopes that the relationship will help it serve its customers in a better manner on a worldwide scale.

The amount Oracle shelled out to acquire Front Porch Digital is, however, not known as the financial terms of the deal were not divulged. Earlier in June this year, Oracle had snagged Micros Systems for $5.3 billion.

Front Porch Digital has over 550 customers that comprise media companies, sports organizations and government agencies. Its customers include prominent names, such as BBC, NASCAR and the European Parliament to name a few.

Front Porch Digital is synonymous with seamless digital data management and it is expected that after the acquisition, Oracle will be in a promising position to sell its technology solutions such as content management tools, analytics packages, as well as database to cater to the growing demands of the industry.

"Organizations need a modern, integrated content storage management solution to manage and monetize their valuable rich media assets," said John Fowler, EVP of Oracle Systems. "We will continue to build on Front Porch Digital's success and unique capabilities, which complement Oracle's existing high performance and scalable engineered storage solutions."

Front Porch Digital is popular for services such as Lynx, a cloud-based CMS, Samma media and DIVASolutions, which is a content storage management system.

With Front Porch Digital and Oracle joining forces, organizations can expect to be greeted by a high-end content storage and management system in the near term, which will aid them in content integration, seamless transition, storage, as well as distribution of media content.
