A recent report confirmed the Moto X (2016) would feature a metal design. Press renders of the smartphone have leaked and suggest that the next-generation flagship handset could launch on Aug. 24.

The first image of Motorola's upcoming flagship Moto X (2016) first leaked in December and showed the device with a redesigned look. It appeared that Motorola was joining the likes of Apple, Samsung, LG and HTC in offering its top-tier smartphone with a premium metal body.

We just reported that the Moto X (2016) that was shown off in December is the real deal, and it came from the always-reliable tipster Evan Blass. It's possible that Motorola may add metal case options to Moto Maker, which allows customers to pick out different materials and accents to customize the device. The company already offers users the option to design their handset with several different wood choices for the back of the device.

Now, we're getting our first look at what appears to be press renders of the Moto X (2016) in both white and black color options. The source claims Motorola is planning on officially naming the Moto X (2016) the "Moto X4."

The tipster suggests that Motorola may be planning to launch the Moto X (2016) or Moto X4 on Aug. 24. In case you're wondering how the source came up with that date, simply look at the date that appears on the displays of the press renders — August 24.

If the August date is accurate, the timing falls around the time that Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Note 6 and just before Apple's September unveiling of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, which could see Samsung and Apple overshadow Motorola's new Moto X (2016)/Moto X4.

We'll be sure to keep you posted on any new Moto X (2016)/Moto X4 news as it becomes available.
