The words "server" and "portability" don't go well together, but very soon, large servers will become mere history, if Eurocom gets its way - the company has unveiled the world's first laptop that sports 12-cores / 24-threads Intel Xenon Processor E5-2697 v2. The processor is designed for the systems that can be used as Server-on-the-Go basis.

The laptop, which is called Panther 5SE Mobile Server, weighs 5.5kg (12lbs) and has a built-in UPS, and 6TB of storage. The compatibility of the system is of less concern too as it supports plenty of network operating systems, which includes Vmware ESXi 5.1, RedHat 6.4 Enterprise and Microsoft Server 2012.

The Eurocom Panther 5SE supports up to 32GB of DDR3 1600MHz RAM via four 8GB SODIMM 204 pin modules. The supercomputer-class laptop supports four internal hard drives with 1.5 terabyte each. Different types of drives (i.e Solid State, Hybrid) with RAID capability are also supported.

"The Panther 5SE Mobile Server is perfect for organizations relocating operations that require fast network setup to eliminate staff downtime with overhead associated with traditional Server Rooms.  Technically there is no server room required to get your organization or workgroup up and running. Startup companies can have an entire network server, for 20-50 users, running in one box," said Mark Bialic, Eurocom President in a press release.

"We have customers who use our mobile servers as backup in case their production server goes down, they can load the virtual machine on to the mobile server for production purposes while the main production server is down.  The more professionals we speak with about the Panther 5SE the more creative and beneficial uses we see," he added.

For security measures, the system is equipped with a fingerprint reader and Kensington lock port. It also has a Trusted Platform Module 1.2, which helps it in keeping crucial data more secure and private.
