For the most part, the summer months aren't all that great for gamers.

Sure, most people have more time to play games, but that doesn't matter much when there's nothing in terms of new releases. 2016 has been a better year than most, but even this year's summertime offerings pale in comparison to the upcoming fall onslaught of new titles.

Thankfully, there's one major distraction planted squarely in the middle of these slow summer months: E3 2016! The biggest gaming industry event in the world is just a few short weeks away, and gamers around the world are ready to hear what Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo have up their sleeves.

Of course, one of the biggest draws of E3 is the slew of huge surprise announcements: games like the Final Fantasy VII Remake, The Last Guardian and Shenmue 3 stole the show last year. Naturally, fans are hoping for some similarly jaw-dropping reveals — but until the show actually starts, gamers won't know much about what will appear on the show floor.
