Absolver is the upcoming online melee action MMO, and as the description suggests, there won't be any guns in it.

Right off the bat, it should be pointed out that this is the first game of Sloclap, an indie studio that consists of former Ubisoft programmers, designers and artists who worked on well-known titles such as Watch Dogs and Ghost Recon. In collaboration with Serious Sam publisher Devolver Digital, the two are now taking the wraps off Absolver.

In the game, the player is put into the shoes of a Prospect, a person who made a vow to join an elite fighting corps called the Absolvers. The group is set out to fight to "maintain stability in the world," and it's going to be a "long and hard" journey to become a part of it.

At first glance, it looks like a typical MMORPG — clear dungeons, take on some baddies, get stronger gradually and anything else along those lines. However, what makes it stand out is that in every run-in, there are plenty of possible outcomes.

"A new story unfolds at each encounter: what are the other's intentions? Will we fight to the death or become allies, trading weapons and teaching each other new attacks?" Pierre Tarno, creative lead at Sloclap, says.

Players will mainly use martial arts for combat, and they'll have access to the Combat Deck to customize their moves and select their style. With that said, they can still use a variety of weapons, including but not limited to swords, staves and even magic.

To achieve victory in both solo and three-on-three matches, they will not only unleash a barrage of killer combos but also dodge, parry and fill up Tension shards to let loose special powers.

At a time when shooters such as Overwatch and Battleborn are taking over the gaming scene, it's definitely refreshing to see the melee-based Absolver.

The game is scheduled for a 2017 release across the PC and PS4, and since the developers said "consoles" in the news release, it's safe to say that the Xbox One will be getting a piece of the action too.

More details are expected to be revealed at the E3 2016 in June, but before then, interested gamers across the globe can take a good look at the gameplay on June 13 at 5:00 p.m. PT via Twitch.
