It appears that the PlayStation 4 won't be the only console to have virtual reality games in the future, as a new report suggests that the Xbox One will be getting them as well. This is news that, if true, gives credence to the rumor that Microsoft is working on a beefed-up VR-capable Xbox One codenamed "Scorpio."

This latest rumor comes straight from the developer of the game in question, who says that the game will be revealed at this year's E3.

For now, the only people who know what the game is and who is behind it, are the people involved in the project and the publisher of the original report. However, even if we have to wait until E3 to see what this game is, we do have a few hints to go by in the meantime.

First off, we know that a well-known European studio will be behind the game. In addition, the game itself will be set within the world of an established, long-running franchise.

This, however, gives us very little, since there are plenty of well-known European studios, and several of them have "established, long-running franchises." Fortunately for us, the next piece of the puzzle helps us narrow things down quite a bit.

The next piece in question is that the game will allegedly also be released on the PC and PS4. This means that the upcoming game must not only be an "established, long-running series" that has been developed by a European studio, but it also must have been present on the Xbox and PlayStation in the past.

Regardless of what the game is, any news about a VR game for the Xbox is a major departure from what Microsoft has said in the past. Compared with Sony, which has been vocal about its intent to dive into VR since 2014, Microsoft has been quiet about it. In fact, a Microsoft executive once said in 2014 that the company was waiting to see how the VR space develops before making any ventures in the VR scene of its own.

However, it appears Microsoft feels now is the time to enter the VR space. As you might recall, recent reports have suggested that a new, more powerful Xbox One — which will be revealed at E3 next month and released in 2017 — will be compatible with the same Oculus Rift headsets that currently run on Windows PCs. Based on this new rumor, it would appear that the new Xbox One rumor is true.
